Zi Chu was born in May 2011. He arrived in our care in June 2015.
Zi Chu has low vision and uses his vision very well. He can distinguish faces and can see enough to pick up small items from the ground. He has good motor skills and can walk on his own. Chandler can also sign several words, such as “eat” and “more”. When on the swings, Chandler has a huge smile on his face and he’s using his hands to communicate that he wants more. Chandler likes to play, especially with the cars. Because he loves them so much, his caregivers are now using them to help him learn new concepts. He likes to play with toys that make music and light up. When he’s not feeling well, he likes to lay down on a bean bag or in a teachers lap and listen to songs on the radio. Sometimes, he can be a little bit mischievous! One day when his teachers weren’t looking he found a pen and drew all over the wall! He also moves very fast and sometimes tries to sneak extra snacks, so his teachers have to be on the lookout. Chandler also loves to jump on the trampoline. Even if he falls, he thinks it’s hilarious.
Chandler loves to spin and likes to play on the piano. He also really likes books with cartoons and enjoys story time. He is currently being potty trained. He will sit in the bathroom but if she is not sure if he’ll have to go again later he’ll hand a diaper to his teacher for help.
Love is Blind in Zhengzhou is located within the Zhengzhou social welfare centre, who have provided a space for Bethel to care for their visually impaired orphans. The centre was opened in December 2011. We have some wonderful ayis and teachers at this project and we hope that our project in the Zhengzhou orphanage will be an example to other orphanages, and that we can be a witness of high-quality care. These visually impaired children in Zhengzhou live under Bethel’s care in 2 apartments near the orphanage. Bethel provides specialized care, therapy, medical checks and education for these children.
